Poetry off the Shelf: LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs

Interdisciplinary poet and sound artist LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs works with words, sound, video, and bodies. The author of the poetry collection TwERK (2013) and several chapbooks, as well as the album Television (2003), Diggs has published work in Ploughshares, Jubilat, Fence, and Black Renaissance Noir, among other publications, and blogged for Harriet. Her performance work has been featured at The Kitchen, Exit Art, Recess Activities Inc, The Whitney and MoMa. As a curator and artistic director, she has staged events at El Museo del Barrio, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Brecht Forum, Symphony Space, Dixon Place, and BAM Café.

Diggs was born and raised in Harlem, studied at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, earned an MA at New York University and an MFA at California College of the Arts. She is the recipient of awards from Cave Canem, New York Foundation for the Arts, Jerome Foundation, Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Millay Colony, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and The Laundromat Project. She and Greg Tate are the editors of yoYO/SO4 magazine.
