Poetry Foundation Library: Special Saturday Hours
61 West Superior Street
Free Admission
The Poetry Foundation Library is open to the public on select Saturdays. Carl Sandburg's publication of "Chicago" in Poetry magazine celebrates its 100th anniversary this March. To celebrate, we're welcoming library visitors to record the poem in our library's listening booths and share their recordings with our SoundCloud community.
Young children and their parents/guardians are also invited to join us for Saturday Poemtime at 10:30 AM.
Browse our collection of nearly 30,000 books of poetry, including 3,000 books especially for children, and listen to restored recordings of poets, like Gwendolyn Brooks and Czeslaw Milosz, reading their own work. Dating back to the 1950s, these archival recordings are available as a result of a unique partnership between the Poetry Foundation and Chicago's WFMT-FM.
The Poetry Foundation Library will continue to serve the public during its regular weekday hours of 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Find updated information about Saturday openings here.
The library offers free field trips for schoolchildren as well as guided visits for adult groups. To schedule a field trip or group visit, please contact the librarian at [email protected].
