In honor of Walt Whitman’s 200th birthday, the Poetry Foundation presents Walt Whitman: Citizen Poet. Produced and directed by Haydn Reiss and Zinc Films, this short film introduces an American original whose influence on contemporary poets remains vital, and whose work helped define a young democracy’s promise and its bold, independent identity.
