The Poetry Foundation Welcomes New Team Members in Several Areas

The Poetry Foundation is pleased to welcome new staff members since the last update, all of whom bring distinct experiences and perspectives to the work being done and the work to come.

Poetry Magazine

• Adrian Matejka (he/him/his) joins Poetry as the new editor after a national search; Matejka follows a series of guest editors who curated three issues each from 2021–2022. Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Matejka grew up in Indianapolis, IN, and served as Poet Laureate of Indiana from 2018–19. A seasoned professor and writer, Matejka has authored several collections of poetry, including his most recent collection, Somebody Else Sold the World, which was a finalist for the 2022 UNT Rilke Prize.
   
• Winshen Liu (she/her/hers) joined Poetry as the business and circulation manager. Liu came to the Foundation after completing Catapult’s yearlong novel generator workshop and leading sales and operations as assistant general manager at Semicolon Bookstore. Before that, Liu worked in software engineering at Hive, product management at NextCapital, and HR at Google. She has also volunteered at 826CHI as a tutor, store associate, and volunteer engagement lead.
   

Poetry Foundation

• Patrick Carroll (he/him/his) came to the Foundation as its new controller. His past experience leading teams in finance, accounting, and operations allows him to execute complex initiatives with a variety of stakeholders. Carroll also served as the Founding Board President of Chicago HOPES for Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides educational support for students experiencing homelessness.
   
• Tom Etherington (he/him/his) joined as the staff accountant, after five years in a similar role at the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School.
   
• Christine Guzaitis (she/her/hers) joined the Foundation as the grants manager. Guzaitis was the senior director of education and grants programs at Illinois Humanities, where she worked for seven years.. She has been a professor and on the staff of Scripps College and the University of California, San Diego, among other institutions of higher learning.
   
• Robert Eric Shoemaker (he/him/his) has taken up the position of digital archive editor. Shoemaker received an MFA from the Jack Kerouac School at Naropa University and a PhD in Humanities from the University of Louisville. The author of three book-length works of hybrid poetry, Shoemaker is also the poetry editor of the journal Plath Profiles and was recently a member of the Sarabande Books Young Professionals Board.
