Debra Bruce is the author of the poetry collections Survivors’ Picnic (2012); What Wind Will Do(1997); Sudden; Hunger(1987), winner of the Carl Sandburg Award from the Chicago Public Library; and Pure Daughter(1983). Her work has been published widely in journals, including the Atlantic, the Cincinnati Review, Measure, Mezzo Cammin, Poetry magazine, Prairie Schooner, Salamander, Virginia Quarterly Review, Women’s Studies Quarterly. Her work has also received grants and prizes from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, the Poetry Society of America, and Poetry magazine.

Originally from Albany, New York, Bruce lives in Chicago, where she is a professor emeritus at Northeastern Illinois University.
