Omotara James

Omotara James is the daughter of Nigerian and Trinidadian immigrants and was born in Britain. James is the author of the poetry collection, Song of My Softening (Alice James Books, 2024), and the chapbook, Daughter Tongue, selected by the African Poetry Book Fund in collaboration with Akashic Books for the 2018 New-Generation African Poets Box Set.

James holds a BA in Creative Writing from Hofstra University and an MFA in Poetry from New York University. She has instructed workshops at New York University, The 92NY Unterberg Poetry Center, Cave Canem Foundation, Queens Public Library, and elsewhere. Her work has received support from the African Poetry Book Fund, the New York Foundation for the Arts, Lambda Literary, and Cave Canem Foundation. She is an assistant editor for Bellevue Literary Review, in New York City.
