Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, children’s poet Rebecca Kai Dotlich earned a BA from Indiana University. She has authored more than 20 books, including What Is Science? (2006), a finalist for an AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize; Bella & Bean (2009), an SCBWI Golden Kite Honor winner; What Can a Crane Pick Up? (2012); Grumbles from the Forest (2013, coauthored with Jane Yolen); and The Knowing Book (2016). Dotlich’s awards include a Junior Library Guild Selection, a Gold Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award, and a Best Children’s Book of the Year by Bank Street College of Education. Her books have been featured on Reading Rainbow and Between the Lions. Dotlich gives workshops on poetry to children and teachers and lives in the Midwest.
