Poet and community organizer Tariq Luthun was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in nearby Dearborn. His first collection of poetry, How the Water Holds Me (Bull City Press, 2020), was awarded the Editors' Selection in the 2019 Frost Place Chapbook Competition. Luthun’s work has appeared in Vinyl Poetry, Lit Hub, Mizna, Winter Tangerine, and Button Poetry, among others. 

The son of Palestinian Muslim immigrants from Gaza, Luthun is a 2022 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellow who earned an MFA in poetry from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. Luthun’s work has earned him such honors as inclusion in the Best of the Net 2017 as well as fellowships from Kundiman, The Watering Hole, and the Kresge Foundation.

Luthun currently serves on The Offing Literary Magazine’s board of directors.
